No More Boring Meatballs: Apricot & Curry Meatballs with Rice Salad Inspired by Washington Post

Do you love meatballs but are tired of the same recipe you've been using for years? Well, then you are going to love my recipe for Apricot & Curry Meatballs with Rice Salad.

A while back I saw a recipe for Apricot-Studded Meatballs With Lemony Couscous on Washington Post and printed it out for a rainy day. Rainy day, in this case, was the day when I had very little inspiration to cook, but

Perfect Winter Soup for Russian Recipes Revisited: Beef and White Beans Soup

October is almost over, so it's time for this month's Russian Recipes Revisited post. This time I give you one of my favorite recipes that my mom has been making ever since I remember: Beef and White Beans Soup. This soup is perfect for chilly days or nights, and is quite easy to make: it just takes a while to simmer.

It's hard to believe this is the first time I've ever made this soup. It

Curried Meatballs With Eggplant Recipe from the New York Times

So a few weeks ago I saw a Curried Meatballs With Eggplant Recipe from the New York Times.
Since I love meatballs and eggplant and Indian spices, I decided to print out the recipe and make it.

Boy, was I in for a project!

I had to toast the spices and then pulverize them in a mortar. This wasn't really hard and my condo smelled amazing from the combination of mustard and cumin seeds,

Eating out with Instagram: Dinner at Doi Moi in DC with Evi

For our monthly dinner date, my friend Evi and I decided to check out the recently opened Doi Moi. Ok, technically I decided, and Evi agreed: she always lets me choose, and, luckily, I haven't disappointed yet. Doi Moi did not disappoint either.

Doi Moi comes from Mark Kuller and Haidar Karoum who have two successful restaurants in DC: Estadio and Proof. Having been to both and loving

How to Cook Steak? Check out The Book of Steak + Steak Sandwich Recipe

I hate, hate, hate, HATE the word veggies. I mean, for god's sakes, vegetables, doesn't take that much longer to say. Even I can pronounce that word..and English isn't my native language.

Ok. I feel better.

Although I hate the word veggies, I love vegetables. Salads, soups, sides, and appetizers can be made with a wide variety of vegetables, and although tomatoes are technically fruit, I can

Perfect One Pot Brunch Dish: Turkey, Pepper & Mushroom Frittata

I believe in low key, easy entertainment: a few simple dishes, a few contributions from my guests, fresh flowers, casual plates and glasses, and a lot of catching up and chatter.

A few weeks ago when I had two friends over for brunch at my condo, I decided to make an antipasto platter as an appetizer, dark chocolate and red currant muffins as dessert and something with eggs as a main course.

What to do with Ground Pork: Asian Pork Meatballs with Teriyaki Glaze

This past Saturday, I randomly went shopping at 11 o'clock at night. It was so lovely: hardly any people, no screaming kids, no long lines: just peace and quiet. I did not have a grocery list in mind and just picked random produce, flowers, and new shampoo. Then I decided to get a package of ground pork and figure out what to do with it.

That's when I remembered one of my most popular

Summer Chili: Bean, Potato, Pepper & Sausage Stew Recipe

A few weeks ago I was invited by Lindley from Heather Freeman PR to attend a cooking class at Zaytinya taught by Chef Michael Costa and Aglaia Kremezi, Greek author, photographer and journalist. Before seeing a demonstration for three different recipes, we took a trip to Penn Quarter's Farmers Market where the chef from Zaytinya picked some of the ingredients that ended up in his dishes.

What to do with a Boneless Leg of Lamb? Ina to the rescue.

A few weekends ago I was invited to attend a super fun event hosted by the American Lamb Board and Craig Rogers of Border Springs Farm. Together with the other bloggers, writers and photographers, I visited four DC restaurants and tried out different lamb dishes they had on their menus. This was such a delicious and boozy afternoon.

What to do with Pomegranate Molasses: Pork in Pomegranate Molasses, Ginger & Garlic Marinade

I'm a cultural Jew. This means I don't observe Kosher laws, nor do I fast for Yom Kippur. I do like Jewish food and culture, and have visited Israel twice. Still, I'm always happy that I wasn't brought up in a strict Jewish home, because then I would not have been able to make and eat this Pork in Pomegranate Molasses, Ginger & Garlic Marinade recipe.

I came up with this recipe a few weekends

Eating out with Instagram: DGS Delicatessen, Birch & Barley, Pupatella and Zengo

I decided to start a new series of posts which I will call Eating out with Instagrams. It'll just be a collection of my instagram photos documenting my adventures in eating out.

Perfect Weekend Breakfast: Spam, Sweet Potato & Red Pepper Hash with a Poached Egg

I love food. Sometimes it's the intricately made sushi rolls, while other times it's slowly braised lamb shanks with tomatoes and tender white beans on a bed of creamy polenta. Last night for dinner I had a bowl of home made guacamole with home made tortilla chips. My point is that my love for food covers quite a large range of cuisines and levels of fanciness.

So then it should come as no

Ezhiki aka "Hedgehogs" Meatballs with Rice: Russian Recipes Revisited

Last month's recipe for Sour Cream Cake was quite involved, so for this month's Russian Recipes Revisited series I decided to make something simpler and also savory.

Growing up in Russia, we had ground beef often. My mom made "fancy" meatloaf by putting hard boiled eggs inside so that when you cut into the meatloaf, you would get a pretty yellow and white center.

Instead of burgers, we had

Smoky Split Pea and Sweet Potato Soup with Turkey Sausage

I love soup year round, but especially when it's cold outside. There is just something so comforting about a hot bowl of soup. Over the weekend I wanted to make Aviva's Split Pea soup, but then I would not be able to blog about it again, and what's the fun in that? So I decided to make a few changes to her recipe and turned it into a Smoky Split Pea and Sweet Potato Soup with Turkey Sausage.

Charleston Wine & Food Festival Recipe Contest: Lamb Tacos

It's time for round #3 of the recipe contest for the Charleston Wine & Food Festival. See my recipes for round 1 and 2 to catch up.

Guess what? I did not win either round, and I very highly doubt I'll win this round either, but I thank all of you for your support and votes. If that sounds a bit snarky, so be it. But you can still VOTE if you want ;)

I'm just going to make the food I want

Chiles En Nogada: Private Cooking Class at Casa Oaxaca in DC

This past Monday night I had a rare opportunity to take a private cooking class at Casa Oaxaca restaurant in DC. Can anyone do it? I doubt it :)

I'm lucky that way! My friend Sylvie got invited by Casa Oaxaca but was busy and sent me in her place. No, this is not the start of 50 Shades of Grey ;)

I was greeted by Joanna, Casa Oaxaca's marketing manager, handed a margarita and told the plan.
